On a beautiful spring evening in May 2005, Partners for Sight
celebrated its 50th year at the historic Crabtree's Kittle House in
Chappaqua, NY. Attended by friends old and new—including
past and present board members and leaders of organizations
serving the visually impaired—theevent paid tribute to our remarkable
growth over the years, highlighted by a video presentation.
( You can view it on our website at
www.rdpfs.org ) Initially set up to support
the Braille edition of Reader’s Digest, Partners for Sight has
evolved into a leading large print publisher and major grant provider. "Our grant
program started out pretty small, offering general support
in the $5,000 to $10,000 range," said Susan Olivo,
the foundation’s Vice President and General Manager.
"As we became more experienced, our grants increased
significantly, providing generous funding for far-reaching
programs that can profoundly impact the lives

of
those whose sight is compromised."
Olivo and Dianna Kelly, Grant Program Manager,
do all the legwork, evaluating dozens of requests each
year. PFS board members weigh in on the decision process, ensuring grant monies are awarded to skilled and fiscally responsible organizations
with a passion for serving the visually impaired. Do you remember Angela Winfield, the
Columbia University graduate who authored our inaugural issue of SightLines?
We were thrilled to see Angela again at our 50th, accompanied by her beautiful new
guide dog!
So, dear reader, we thank you for being part of our 50 years of service and eagerly look
forward to the next 50, as we continue to bring help and hope to the blind and visually
impaired!
